Goo Goo Dolls Biography
Formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1986, Goo Goo Dolls grew from punk and alternative beginnings into one of the defining pop-rock bands of the 1990s. Led by vocalist and guitarist John Rzeznik and bassist and vocalist Robby Takac, the group is known for emotionally direct songwriting and a catalog spanning more than a dozen studio albums.
The 1998 album Dizzy Up the Girl brought the band major commercial success, with enduring songs including “Iris,” “Slide” and “Black Balloon.” Other notable tracks include “Name,” “Here Is Gone” and “Big Machine.” “Iris,” featured in the film City of Angels, became a signature song and a familiar live singalong. The band has also received multiple Grammy nominations, including recognition for “Iris.”
